The Best Time to Visit Las Vegas: A Month-by-Month Guide
Las Vegas has a reputation for being open 24/7, 365 days a year — and that's true. But anyone who's stepped onto the Strip in August knows that not all months are created equal. Whether you're planning a poolside bachelorette weekend, a family getaway, or a big-group celebration, timing your visit can be the difference between a trip you rave about and one you just survived. We've hosted thousands of guests in our luxury short-term rentals across the valley, and we've learned a thing or two about when Vegas truly shines. Here's our honest, month-by-month guide.
Spring (March–May): The Sweet Spot
If we had to pick one season to recommend above all others, spring wins. Temperatures settle into that 65–85°F range that makes everything feel easy — a morning walk through the Arts District, an afternoon by the pool, an evening on the Strip without the heat or the crowds of summer. March kicks things off with Spring Break energy (expect fuller properties and higher prices around that window), but April and May are genuinely relaxed. The desert wildflowers are out, Red Rock Canyon is at its most photogenic, and the city hasn't hit peak tourist season yet. It's also one of the best times to take advantage of a private outdoor pool — the water is comfortable, the sun is warm but not punishing. Our custom rock-grotto pool villa is particularly popular this time of year, and it's easy to see why.
Summer (June–August): Hot, Crowded, and Still Worth It
Let's be upfront: Las Vegas summers are intense. Daytime highs regularly push 105–115°F in July and August, and the sun will remind you of that fact every single step of the way. That said, summer has a real appeal — especially if you're traveling with a group that's happy to sleep in, hit the pool in the late afternoon, and spend evenings out when the air finally cools down. Hotel rates on the Strip can actually dip mid-week in summer because leisure travelers hesitate. For our guests, staying in a private home with your own pool means you control the schedule entirely. Families especially love summer because the kids are out of school and the value works in their favor. Our spacious family retreat near Red Rock — with its lap pool, playground, putt-putt, and arcade — was practically designed for a summer week.
- June — Hot but manageable; great pool weather, especially evenings
- July — Peak heat; plan outdoor time for early morning or after 7 p.m.
- August — Similar to July; monsoon season can bring dramatic desert storms (they're actually beautiful to watch from a patio)
Fall (September–November): Our Personal Favorite
September is when Las Vegas exhales. The crowds thin, the temperatures drop back into the 80s and 90s, and the city feels like it belongs to you again. October is arguably the single best month on the calendar — warm afternoons, cool evenings, perfect patio weather, and Halloween on the Strip, which is genuinely one of the most entertaining spectacles we've seen anywhere. November brings the Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix (a recent addition that's already become a landmark event), which does mean elevated demand around race weekend, so book early if that's your plan. For a group looking to stretch a long weekend into something memorable, fall is the time to do it. Our 7-bedroom villa with a private theater and karaoke room tends to fill up fast in October — plan accordingly.
"October in Las Vegas is about as close to perfect as desert travel gets — warm enough to swim at noon, cool enough to walk the Strip at midnight without breaking a sweat."
Winter (December–February): Underrated and Underbooked
Winter is Las Vegas's best-kept secret. December through February brings cooler temperatures — highs in the mid-50s to low 60s — which catches some visitors off guard, but it also brings the lowest crowds and some of the best rates of the year. The Strip is beautifully lit through the holidays, New Year's Eve is a world-class event (book months in advance for that one), and January and February feel almost local. The outdoor pools are colder, but several of our homes offer heated pools or hot tubs that make winter stays genuinely cozy. If your group is more interested in entertainment, dining, and nightlife than pool time, winter might be your ideal window. Our modern farmhouse villa with a theater room and hot tub is a wonderful winter option — there's something deeply satisfying about soaking in a hot tub under a clear desert sky when it's 55°F out.
Key Events Worth Planning Around
- March–April: Spring Break, March Madness watch parties across the city
- May: Memorial Day Weekend — one of the busiest pool weekends of the year
- September: Labor Day Weekend; post-summer crowds but still warm
- October: Halloween on the Strip; Route 91 Harvest Festival
- November: Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix (book 6+ months out)
- December 31: New Year's Eve — unmatched fireworks over the Strip; inventory sells out fast
- January–February: Super Bowl weekend (Las Vegas hosted in 2024 and will again); great for sports groups
So, When Should You Book?
The honest answer is: it depends on what you're after. If perfect weather is the priority, aim for late October or April. If you want the best rates and don't mind cooler temps, January and February are genuinely excellent. If you're traveling with kids or a big group that needs school-calendar flexibility, summer works — just lean into the private-home lifestyle and skip the midday sun. Whatever month you choose, staying in a private luxury home rather than a hotel changes the entire experience. You have space, privacy, your own kitchen, your own pool, and a place to actually land together as a group. Take a look at the full collection and find the home that fits your trip — we'd love to host you.
